Neurodegenerative and repair study group- The team of Shengzhou Wu

Team members

  1. Principle Investigator: Shengzhou Wu, PhD Tuto

He graduated from Shanghai Medical University in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in medicine;

He received his PhD degree in neuroscience at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 2000 to 2004. Later, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Washington Medical Science in Saint Louis with one-year clinical work. He became the Professor in Wenzhou Medical University as research leader in 2010. He was also appointed as the editor of Journal of Neurochemistry. Dr. Wu’s research scope largely focuses on the mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders occurred in the eye and the brain.  Recently, they found the critical roles of serine racemase in retinal neurodegeneration in diabetic retinopathy (See Journal of Neuroinflammation, 2011; Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, 2014; Journal of Neurochemistry, 2016). The findings are repeated and testified by international peer researchers.

2. Lab Staff: Haiyan Jiang, Yimei Liu, Jingjing Cai, He Zhang, Jing Zhou, Yan Wang

3. Graduate student: Yanqi Li, Juan Song, Meiling Lian, Juan Chen, Xue Jiang, Yiting Guo

Scope of Research Propasal

1. The study of serine racemase/D- serine in diabetic retinopathy;

2. Study of the mechanisms of choroidal neovascularization in exudative AMD.

3. The roles of ubiquitin-proteasome inhibition and / or ER stress
