The Laboratory of Myopia & Visual Performance was established at the Eye hospital of Wenzhou Medical University in the year 2006. It focuses on basic research as well as applicational research of myopia, investigating epidemiology, pathogenesis/causation of myopia/pathologic myopia, aiming at developing an anti-myopia strategy for myopia prevention and control.

The Wenzhou Medical University-Essilor International Research Centre (WEIRC) was established on the basis of a long-term partnership between Wenzhou Medical University and Essilor International. It created a research platform in the field of vision science which focuses on myopia in children. It centers around the pathology and epidemiology of myopia, along with an exploration on approaches for myopia control and prevention.
